The Veterans Section is an autonomous section within itself as approved and/or restricted by the Constitution of Wanstead Golf Club whose rules ultimately govern the Section.
Membership
Applications to the membership must comply with the following categories for both ladies and gentlemen:-
a) Members over the age of 65
b) Members over the age of 60 years of age and qualify by being partially but NOT FULLY EMPLOYED.
c) Members over 55 years of age and qualify by being FULLY RETIRED, REDUNDANT and UNEMPLOYED
Category c was approved by the Management Council in 1995 to reflect the change in circumstances of a number of members.

Decisions within the Veterans Section
(i)Decisions relating to all matters regarding Matches, Competitions and Social events will be taken by the following Officers of the Section:-
Veterans Captain
Veterans Vice-Captain
Veterans Secretary
Veterans Social Secretary
Veterans Treasurer
Previous Years Veterans Captain
Disciplinary action within the Veterans Section
(i)Any disciplinary action to be taken within the Veterans Section will be undertaken by a committee composed of the following:-
Veterans Captain
Veterans Vice-Captain
Veterans Secretary
Veterans Treasurer
Plus any one Past Captain of the section
Appeal Procedures
(i)Any appeal shall be heard by a committee composed of the Veterans President and any two Past Captains of the section.
(ii)The Management Council require that at all times, there should be a close liaison with the House and Course Committees and the Operations Manager.
Finance
(i)The annual subscription to be a member of the Veterans Section is £10.00 or as agreed by the membership at the AGM This subscription is payable on the date of the AGM.
(ii)The Match Fee is £15.00 per match where there is a “sit-down” meal or as set by the Treasurer ratified by the Committee.
The full Match Fee is payable even if the player does not stay for the meal.
(iii)There will be a £2.00 per person levy to enter each Official Veterans Competition recorded on the Club V1 system or as set by the Treasurer.
(iv)The Treasurer to keep a working balance agreed by the committee.
Clothing
(i)Veterans Section shirts and jumpers to be worn whenever possible in inter-club matches.
(ii)Jacket, collar and tie to be worn for all “sit-down” functions. This will include all inter-club matches, all matches with the Wanstead Ladies, the AGM and Presidents Cup or as proscribed by the Captain.
Clothing on all other occasions to be “smart casual” in accordance with Wanstead Golf Club rules.

(i)The officially sanctioned Veterans Competitions are:-

Bill Stirling Trophy
Roberts Quaich
Doughty Putter
Kings Shield
Cansey Shield
Mixed Greensomes
Pajwani Trophy
Alex Laing Greensomes
“Tail-End-Charlie” Eclectic
The Effor Foursomes
The Geoff Cole Memorial Cup
Vet of the Year
(ii)All players must have an “Active””Competitve” handicap to play in any of these competitions.
(iii)All players who have entered the competition to be in attendance by 7.30am (for a 8.00am start) and 8.00am (for a 8.30am start)
(iv)The timetable for the knockout competitions (Pajwani Trophy and Bill StirlingTrophy) to be strictly adhered to. The Secretary to rule on requests for extensions.
(v)That the rules of golf be adhered to and that, except for matchplay competitions - all players should “putt-out”
Prizes
(i)The winner of all Veterans Competitions will receive the appropriate trophy.
(ii)In addition,
a)Monthly meetings
1st - 3 balls
2nd - 2 balls
3rd - 1 ball
Nearest the pin - 3 balls
b)Inter Club Matches
Nearest the pin (home side) - 3 balls
Nearest the pin (away side) - 3 balls
c)Vets Competitions
1st - 3 balls
2nd - 2 balls
3rd - 1 ball
Nearest the pin - 3 balls
d)The provision of prizes for both the “Ladies Greensomes” and “Cansey Shield” to be shared with the ladies section.
The Veterans Section to provide wine for winners of both competitions as well as 3 balls for nearest the pin for both lady and gent.”
e)Additional prizes:
1)Winner of the Roberts Quaich to receive a bottle of Glenmorangie
The Captain has discretion to vary prizes to be awarded.
Inter-Club Matches
(i)Veterans Section shirts and jumpers to be worn.
(ii)All players should remain after the game for lunch with their playing partner and opposition.
(iii)Smart casual for home matches - dress for away matches to be decided by host club.
(iv)For the home matches, there will be two “nearest the pin” competitions, one for the home team and one for the away team.
Food
There will be a “sit-down” lunch for all inter-club matches, matches with the Ladies, the AGM and the Presidents Cup. Jacket, collar and tie must be worn for the President's Cup or as proscribed by the Captain
At the Captain’s discretion there will be sandwiches & chips lunch on all other Internal Vets Trophy days.
